This special event takes place in the evening in the Campground neighborhood of Oak Bluffs and is a favorite of both Vineyard locals and visitors each summer. It is typically held on the third Wednesday in August, when the beautiful gingerbread cottages are decorated with hundreds of colorful Japanese and Chinese lanterns.
A community sing along and concert kicks off the evening at the MV Camp Meeting Association’sTabernacle, and then the lanterns are lit for all to admire and enjoy. It is truly an incredible sight! A grand fireworks display at the Oak Bluffs park ends this wonderful summer evening.
This tradition began over 100 years ago as a way to welcome the Governor of Massachusets to Martha's Vineyard, and it is still a fun event for all ages.
The concert begins at 7:30pm and the lanterns are lit when the sky becomes dark.
